Fellowships
Fellowships are financial awards that include tuition scholarships and stipends for which no service to the university is required.
Scholarships
A scholarship covers all or a portion of tuition and general fees for full-time or part-time graduate students. It does not include a stipend.
Assistantships
Assistantships are financial awards that include tuition scholarships and stipends in return for service to the university. Typically, an assistant will be either a teaching assistant in his/her program, or a research assistant helping a faculty member with his or her research. A few Graduate Assistants may serve as administrative assistants.
Grants
Grants are typically one-time funds for the purpose of pursuing a specific academic or research-related goal such as travel to a professional meeting, the purchase of a needed piece of equipment for a research project, support for necessary research in another location. Federal grants may be applied for using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). These are awarded based on financial need.
Loans
If you are a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati, you may apply for student loans. The programs available are the Federal Stafford Loan, Federal Perkins Loan and Federal Work-Study. Please note that any scholarship or financial aid that you receive from the university may reduce your eligibility for these programs.
If you are eligible, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible during or prior to the completion of your application to the university. You may apply for federal loans by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
