Teaching
Workshops
The Graduate School and the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning sponsor workshops
for teaching assistants several times throughout the academic year. Topics of particular interest to graduate students — such as presentation skills, proposal writing, and family issues — are presented by faculty and other experts in the field. These workshops, offered at no cost to graduate students, are designed for those interested in strengthening their skills as teaching assistants and/or in preparing for a career
in the professoriate. Interested students should check with their program offices for times and locations.
CET&L
The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning
is devoted to serving the needs of teaching faculty and Graduate Assistants. They offer a variety of services including videotaping,
guidelines and resources for syllabus preparation, a fall institute, a resource library, and guidelines for creating good tests and exams.
PFF
The University of Cincinnati is one of a number of campuses offering the national Preparing Future Faculty program to
its doctoral and post-doctoral students, and a limited number of master’s students. With the permission of the program director, students may opt to enroll in PFF to obtain valuable experience in teaching, research and service. If a student completes the
entire 130-140 hour program, they will graduate with an official Certificate of Completion from the program and it will
appear on their official transcript. This provides those students intending to join the professoriate a competitive edge in the job market.
Research
University Libraries
The University Libraries offer a wide variety of services helpful to the graduate student from workshops on how to write citations and academic integrity to research skills, choosing a database, and avoiding plagiarism.
