The Master of Science in Radiological Sciences (Medical Physics) emphasizes the physical problems related to applications of radiation, both ionizing and non-ionizing, in clinical medicine, and, in particular, in radiology. The intent of the graduate program is to prepare a graduate for initiating a career as a medical physicist, particularly in either radiation oncology or medical imaging. Preparation of students is accomplished, in the two year program, through didactic coursework, supervised laboratory experiences, clinical participation and accomplishment of a guided research project. Included in the coursework and the clinical participation are: the physics of radiation oncology, radiographic imaging, nuclear medicine and medical radiation safety. The research project, selected by the student, will concentrate on a single aspect of medical physics. A comprehensive examination, both written and oral is required for completion.
Upon completion of the program, the student should be prepared to undertake the boarding process of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) Examination in Medical Physics.
