Program Overview
The Master of Arts in Art Education seeks to prepare mature and sophisticated art educators capable of providing intellectual and practical leadership in the field. Reflecting on the interconnectedness of art, education and society and embracing a broad definition of art that includes traditional fine arts, contemporary technologies, indigenous and community art and visual culture, the program celebrates the educational potential of urban settings. The curriculum is based on contemporary art education theory and practice with particular attention to the process of making and deriving meaning from works of art. The goals of research and study are to improve art education for diverse learners in a variety of settings, especially in public schools.

Admission Requirements
• A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
• A cumulative 3.0 grade point average in art and education work
• A completed Supplementary Information Form
• A completed Departmental Application Form
• Official academic transcripts of all college, university and/or art school work
• For transferring applicants, transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate credits
• Results from the Miller Analogies Test
• Three letters of recommendation
• An essay describing intellectual biography, educational objectives, and qualifications for program
• Examples of articles, papers, slides or videotapes of creative work from previous study
• For international applicants, TOEFL minimum score 600
