Learn the ABC's of making useful contacts at conferences, gallery exhibits, performances, and social gatherings. Our facilitators will model practical approaches for engaging the high and mighty. Afterwards, put these principles into practice by networking with successful UC alumni in an informal setting.

Non-Academic Career Development

This workshop will be useful to masters and doctoral students who are seeking information on nonacademic career paths (this is not a career fair and the panelists are not recruiters).
- What are some career possibilities for graduate degree holders in the panelist's corner of that sector?
- What are qualities that this sector may deem valuable in a person as a result of their graduate degree holding status?
- What can students do during their studies to prepare themselves for this type of nonacademic work (networking, coursework, internship/research opportunities, etc.)?
- What would an effective job search look like and when should one start it?

Responsible Conduct of Research Annual Spring Lecture
TBDSelecting and Working with Your Thesis/Dissertation Chair and Committee: Arts & Humanities students
This workshop will be useful to masters and doctoral students in Social and Behavioral Science programs who are seeking guidance, have questions, or would simply enjoy a faculty perspective on the following topics.
-Purpose and Uses of a research advisor and committee at different stages of degree completion (i.e. pre-comps vs. dissertation committee)
-Important considerations in selecting faculty to fulfill these roles
-Characteristics of successful graduate students, including how productive relationships with their committees were initiated and maintained
-Effective methods of potential conflict management on a committees

Submitting Your Electronic Thesis/Dissertation
This workshop will cover basic topics related to graduation and the electronic thesis and dissertation process. You will understand the steps for successful fulfillment of graduation requirements. You will also receive complete information about the electronic thesis and dissertation completion, resources available at UC, and the assistance that the ETD Helpdesk can offer you. The workshop is targeted for students planning to graduate in either this or the next quarter (Winter 09/Spring 09). However, anyone who wishes to obtain detailed information about the graduation and thesis process at UC is welcome to attend.
