This workshop will give participants a broad overview of how to prepare for an academic job as a graduate student. Areas of focus will be the job search and CV and cover letter creation. Feel free to bring job ads or coverletters for general feedback in group discussion.

Getting Your Manuscript Accepted for Publication
How to write strong cover letters and respond effectively to critical comments by referees. Bring your own materials for advice and help, or simply soak up the expert's advice.

Library Resources for Graduate Student Research
University Libraries presents a few of their most valuable graduate student resources such as OneSearch, RefWorks, UC Article Linker, as well as info on how to use UC archival collections. These resources will help graduate students organize and speed up the research process.

Selecting and Working with Your Thesis/Dissertation Chair and Committee: Physical Sciences & Engineering students
This workshop will be useful to masters and doctoral students in Physical Science & Engineering programs who are seeking guidance, have questions, or would simply enjoy a faculty perspective on the following topics.
-Purpose and Uses of a research advisor and committee at different stages of degree completion (i.e. pre-comps vs. dissertation committee)
-Important considerations in selecting faculty to fulfill these roles
-Characteristics of successful graduate students, including how productive relationships with their committees were initiated and maintained
-Effective methods of potential conflict management on a committees
