Preparing Future Faculty

Welcome to the UC Preparing Future Faculty Programs!

The UC PFF Programs provide instruction in modern teaching and learning and offer rich mentoring experiences that strengthen these career skills. The UC PFF Program was established in 1993, as one of the founding group of national PFF Programs. Active participation in a PFF program is widely recognized as a valuable credential.

  • PFF is open to all doctoral and postdoctoral students and, selectively, to master’s degree students and faculty.
  • PFF is especially intended for those who seek academic careers, but many of the experiences and courses are valuable, even if you are interested in a non-academic career.
  • You may participate in many, or just a few, of these PFF programs and activities, according to your interests and your schedule.
  • You can earn a PFF Certificate, which will be listed on your transcript, by completing both PFF courses, some workshops and reading groups, and a mentoring experience.

Is It Valuable?

YES! PFF students and mentors express great appreciation for the experience of working and learning together. And national studies (Wested and Abt, 2004; DeNeef, 2002) have shown that PFF gives alumni a competitive edge in the academic job market and in the early years of their career.
