The program is open to full-time graduate students in the humanities and social sciences-regardless of citizenship- enrolled in doctoral programs in the United States. Applicants must have completed all Ph.D. requirements except fieldwork and dissertation by the time the fellowship begins or by December 2006, whichever comes first. Description

Fellows will receive $3,000 to be used for expenses connected with the dissertation. These may include, but are not limited to, travel, books, microfilming, taping, and computer services. Fellowships will be announced in late January 2007.

Organization Description

Founded in 1945, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to the encouragement of excellence in education through the identification of critical needs and the development of effective national programs to address them. This combination of analysis and translation into action is the Foundation’s unique contribution. The Foundation’s three broad areas of concern are: A Liberal Arts Renaissance, Access and Opportunity, and Partnerships for Learning. Its programs include fellowships for graduate study, professional development for teachers, educational opportunities for women and minorities, relating the academy to society, and national service. Through its programs, the Foundation seeks to encourage a new generation of leaders. Most programs address at least two of the three general Foundation goals. The Foundation is tax exempt under sections 501(c)(3) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is supported by grants from foundations

 

Seeking

Students in doctoral programs in any field of study at graduate schools in the United States are eligible to apply. Candidates must have completed all pre-dissertation requirements, including approval of the dissertation proposal, and expect to complete their dissertations by the summer of 2007. Candidates who are within a few months of completing their work should not apply.
