Innovation Incentive Initiative
(Economic Growth Challenge)

In 2006, the University of Cincinnati was selected as one of ten Ohio public institutions to participate in the Innovation Incentive Initiative. Over two fiscal years, the university will receive $1.2 million to refocus our doctoral programs in order to generate world-class research and stimulate economic growth. The four primary objectives of the initiative are:

  • Achieve enhanced program focus through effective doctoral program reallocation investments;
  • Attract preeminent researchers and build world-class research capacity
  • Create new products and services to be commercialized, leading to job creation and economic growth in Ohio and in all the regions of the state; and
  • Complement funding provided from programs included in Ohio’s Third Frontier Project, a high-tech research commercialization initiative.

We have identified nine priority interdisciplinary research areas that have nationally and internationally recognized research strengths in STEM2 disciplines. Fostering invention, innovation, and basic scientific and technological investigation in these areas will strengthen our doctoral education and help catalyze economic growth in Ohio and improve the general well-being of citizens.
