The Second international Workshop on Post-Quantum Cryptography
(Daniel
Cabarcas)
PQCrypto 2008 served as a forum for researchers to present results and exchange ideas in post-quantum cryptography. The topics included:
* public key cryptosystems that have the potential to resist possible future quantum computers such as: hash-based Merkle-type signature schemes, lattice-based cryptosystems, code-based cryptosystems, multivariate cryptosystems and quantum cryptographic schemes;
* classical and quantum attacks including side channel attacks on the post-quantum cryptosystems;
* Security models for the post-quantum era.

STEP Open House
(Gabriel
Wickizer)
A showcase of the comprehensive body work of all 2008/2009 Graduate Fellows, including 30 posters of meta-disciplinary lessons based on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) content. The lessons rely on inquiry to create a sensitive pedagogy that combines multiple learning styles with an emphasis on the hands-on application of material and the relationship of this material to future careers as well as society on the whole. Results from each lesson's first implementation are presented and discussed. Overview presentations by the funding body (NSF), principle investigators, participating high school teachers, and the Fellows summarize the undertakings of the grant year.

In its
first year of existence, the MS-Marketing Student Association is aimed at increasing the interaction
between MS-Marketing alumni, current MS-Marketing students, and the UC Marketing faculty. The organization has already organized a three Lunch-and-Learn sessions bringing in alumni and guest
speakers on hot topics in marketing. In the first Lunch-and-Learn session, MS-Marketing alumnus Regina
Hoell led a discussion on Zaltman’s Marketing Metaphoria. Another MS-Marketing alum, Dennis Devlin,
led the second Lunch-and-Learn on systematic job search processes. Our third Lunch-and-Learn on May
8th brings Pete Blackshaw from AC Nielsen in for a discussion of his book, Satisfied Customers Tell Three
Friends, Angry Customers Tell 3000. Alumni, students and Marketing faculty are all benefitting from this
MS-Marketing Student Association initiative.

The Spring Research Conference (typically held every April) brings graduate students and faculty together from the University of Cincinnati, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville to share papers, posters and exchange ideas through roundtable discussions. Dr. Thomas Guskey was our keynote speaker. 55 students shared their research. Hosting of the conference is rotated by these 3 universities.

CCM Music Theory & Musicology Society 2008 Student Conference
(Thomas
Kernan)
The second student conference of the CCM Music Theory & Musicology Society featured keynote addresses by Christopher Hasty (Walter W. Naumburg Professor of Music Theory, Harvard University) and Richard Taruskin (Professor of Musicology, University of California, Berkeley) as well as a panel discussion on studying music performance, and paper presentations by twelve graduate students from programs around the U.S.

Compatibility of a Self Healing Glass Seal with SOFC Components
(Sandeep
Singh)
Among many technical barriers to implement solid oxide fuel cell, a durable and reliable sealant is at the top priority. In solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stacks, the metallic interconnect (oxidation resistant metallic alloys) is
typically sealed to the ceramic components (electrolyte and electrodes) by a sealing glass. In order to maintain the structural stability of cell, the sealing glass has to be structurally stable and chemically compatible
with cell components. In the present study, the thermal expansion measurement and chemical compatibility of a silicate based self healing glass with YSZ electrolyte and metallic interconnects are evaluated for longer
time (~1000 hrs) at 800 C.
