Continuing Initiatives
Quantitative Component of the Phase 1 Longitudinal Study:
Method:
· The annual online survey will be modified, based on Phase I findings and Graduate School intervention, and conducted with project’s original cohort of doctoral students. It will be administered academic years beginning in autumn 2007 and autumn 2008.
· Academic year beginning autumn 2009 will be dedicated to data analysis of longitudinal data collected in Phases I and II surveys.
Qualitative Component of the Phase 1 Longitudinal Study:
Method:
· Students will be invited to participate in semi-structured interviews, which will parallel the quantitative questionnaire with open-ended questions. This will take place once in autumn 2007 and a second time in spring 2008.
· Graduate program directors, of those students to be interviewed, will be interviewed during winter 2008. Interviews will focus on graduate program directors’ thoughts about the challenges facing Ph.D. students as well as the progress of other Ph.D. students.
